Accordingly, the bird world here is mainly influenced by this continent and not by the Caribbean. The location near the South American continent and the variety of habitats result in a high level of avidiversity. Since some bird species with very small distribution areas occur, both Trinidad and Tobago have each been recognized by BirdLife International as Secondary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-S).
